Does EXCIMER LASER & LASIK hurt?

Since your eyes are completely numb during the procedure, you are very comfortable. LASIK requires a short recovery period.

In all refractive procedures, patients’ eyes are numbed locally with anesthetic drops. Surgeons place the eyelid opener on the upper and lower lids to eliminate blinking. Since the laser beam cannot be seen, the patient is asked to look at the flashing red light. The only way you can notice the laser is by its sound.

Soft contact lenses should be removed 1 week before the examination, and hard or gas permeable lenses 4 weeks before.

The colored part of the eye is the loss of transparency of the lens, a formation behind the iris. Like the lens in a camera, the lens of the eye refracts light rays to focus the image on the retina. If the lens of the eye begins to opaque, vision decreases. In addition to blurry vision, other symptoms of cataracts include glare, ghost images, and decreased vision in very bright or very dark conditions.

The timing of cataract surgery varies widely depending on the person’s vision needs. A person who requires very good vision for their job (e.g., a pilot) will have cataract surgery at an earlier stage than an older person who does not drive much or reads. Cataract surgery may be performed when vision has decreased to a level that interferes with daily or occupational needs and when the eye doctor determines that cataract surgery will improve vision sufficiently.

If there is no other factor that will reduce vision, the probability of vision improvement after cataract surgery is between 90 and 99%.
